Hello Jugaadu friends, In the past years many inventions have been made in electronics field. The batteries are the important and significant part of electronics. There are many developments have been made in batteries but still batteries takes up a amount of weight and space of electronics gadgets and devices. Although tiny nuclear batteries also available that can provide energy for 10 years, but they are quiet expensive because they use radio active elements.
The future energy storage devices is based on thin copier paper and carbon nano tubes. These ultra thin, flexible storage devices could meet the energy demands of the next generation gadgets.
Paper Battery
A paper battery is a flexible, ultra thin energy storage and production device formed by combining carbon nano tubes with a conventional sheet of cellulose-based paper. In paper battery tiny Carbon Nano tubes cylinders are used to collect the electric charge. The plain copier paper is dipped in lithium containing solution. The nano tubes will act as electrodes allowing storage device to conduct electricity.
The two component super capacitor and high energy battery is combined in paper battery. The paper battery provide steady power production and bursts of energy for a long time due to combination of these two components.
Who Develop the Paper battery
In august 2007, a research team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and MIT developed the paper battery. The team is lead by Dr. Robert Linhardt, the Ann and John H.Broad Bent, senior constellation professors of bio catalysis and Metabolic engineering at Rensselaer, the Pulickel M.Ajayan, Professor of materials science and engineering and Omkaram Nalamasu, professor of chemistry and Material science and engineering.
Pros of Paper Battery
- The flexible shape allows the paper battery to be used small or irregularly-shaped electronics.
- Size and shape.
- The paper battery may replace conventional batteries completely.
- No Explosion.
- Many battery chemicals are corrosive, poisonous, or both. If leakage occurs, either spontaneously or through accident, the chemicals released may be dangerous.
- The widespread use of batteries has created many environmental concerns, such as toxic metal pollution. There is no environmental pollution by paper battery.
- Usage of paper as a battery will ultimately lead to weight diminution of batteries many times as compared to traditional batteries.
- The medical uses are particularly attractive because they do not contain any toxic materials.
